No organization knows more about Boiler Optimization than the Boiler Efficiency Institute (BEI), and their expert, Dr. David Dyer, Ph.D., PE just traveled New York State for SFMI's Boiler Optimization regional training program.
As a direct result of our partnership with New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), SFMI offered this premier training, helping school distrcits throughout the state optimize their facility systems and save on operational expenses.
Participants found Dr. Dyer's presentation informative and useful in brining energy and cost saving measures back to their school district. "The program overall was excellent," commented Stan Polmateer, SFMI Co-Chair, Senior Director of Facilities for Rush-Henrietta CSD. "Dr. Dyer once again brought his incredible knowledge and experience of boiler systems and operations to New York State's school districts."
In recognition of New York State Education Department Commissioner Richard P. Mills' dedication and leadership in the education profession, SBGA and SFMI are proud to announce the annual School Facilities Professional Development Scholarship. Starting this year, SBGA and SFMI will award one deserving Active or Affiliate member in good standing attendance at our annual School Facilities Professional Development Program and School Facilities Managers' Academy (a value of $1,000).
The SFMI Board will announce this year's winner in the coming weeks.
SBGA/SFMI leaders gathered in Alexandria Bay for their annual Leadership Weekend April 30-May 2, and the theme this year was Growing a Strong Organization from the Ground Up. "This weekend is our opportunity to focus on growing our Chapters and sustaining a strong state-wide organization," commented Joe Hammond, CDF, SBGA President (Liverpool CSD).
Nurturing the resources available to us is critical to sustaining a strong, successful organization. SBGA Officers, State Directors, Chapter Presidents and SFMI Board Members spent the weekend discussing everything from Chapter team building to strategies for energizing members at all levels of the Association.
On March 26, 2009, SFMI in partnership with New York State Education Department (NYSED) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) held its first Critical Issues One-Day Training Summit in historic Chancellors Hall located in the NYS Education Building, Albany, NY.
We're pleased to announce we had nearly 100% Chapter participation for this year's event, with 55 school facilities professionals traveling to the Capital Monday, March 16.
This year's key issues were:
Legislative Priorities • Support Directors of Facilities • Support Energy Reserve Fund
Budgetary Priorities • Support Governor's Repeal of Wicks Law • Support the Re-Establishment of a dedicated Maintenance Aid
Many thanks to all participants; your continued support of the Association and school facilities professional continues to be invaluable. We also thank Jim Carr, Heather Evans and Brittany Vogel of Hinman Straub for all of their efforts in scheduling legislative appointments, assembling event materials and preparing the group for the day.
Since 1993, the NYS Association for Superintendents of Buildings and Grounds, Inc. (SBGA) has provided 100 children of SBGA members with scholarships totaling $150,000.
Our congratulations to this year's Fred Hack Memorial Scholarship winners!
